A: An inquiry is a record in your credit report which shows that a company has looked at your credit file. When you apply for credit, it is known as a hard inquiry and can have a negative impact on your credit score. Multiple hard inquiries in a short period of time can have a very negative effect on your credit score.
Q: Does checking my own credit hurt my score?
A: No, so long as you are going through a company licensed to provide credit reports to consumers.
